What Are the Types of Stainless Steel Shafts?

Stainless steel shafts are used today in many fields, from heavy industry to the food sector. The main reason for their popularity is that they are made of steel. Containing up to 2 percent more carbon than iron gives steel greater hardness and better mechanical properties, and for these reasons steel products are preferred over iron.
The stainless steel shaft can be found in sectors that touch every part of our lives. Being made of steel rather than iron makes it harder and more durable, and it also offers very high resistance to rust. This product is manufactured in both austenitic and martensitic grades. Stainless steel shafts are produced in long lengths and in various shapes by rolling or extrusion. There are also several varieties of the product: solid round shafts, solid square shafts and solid hexagonal shafts. You can find out what each of these terms means below.
Types of Stainless Steel Shafts
Solid Round Shafts
- Solid round shafts are also referred to as solid bars of circular cross-section.
- They are generally produced in stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy and case-hardened steels, and aluminum.
- The main production method is hot or cold rolling of the material followed by drawing.
- Manufacturers offer round bars to their customers in a wide range of sizes.
- They are widely used in tank equipment, enclosures and cabinets, motor axles, motors, food industry equipment and instruments. They can also be found in the medical equipment sector.
Solid Square Shafts
- These are also referred to as solid bars of rectangular cross-section.
- They are generally produced in stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy and case-hardened steels, and aluminum.
- Manufacturers offer solid square bars to their customers in a variety of sizes.
- Square shafts are typically required for the production of axles, pins, shafts and similar components.
Hexagonal Shafts
- Hexagonal shafts have their own primary applications, such as nuts, hexagonal bolts and hexagonal plugs.
- Very common in industry, this product has become virtually indispensable to the sector.
Applications of Stainless Steel Shafts
- Shipbuilding and machinery
- Defense and manufacturing
- Paint and food industries
- The product can be found across every industrial field.
