What Is Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is a material that performs exceptionally well against rust and corrosion. One of the main reasons stainless steel pipe is so widely chosen is its high resistance to rusting. In addition to their attractive appearance, stainless steels resist problems such as staining and oxidation.

What Is Stainless Steel?

Thanks to its low cost, stainless steel is used in a wide range of applications. With more than 150 different grades available, stainless steel can be selected for virtually any working environment. Its applications today are extensive and include the medical sector, the food industry, surgical equipment, the automotive sector, household appliances, and building components, among many others. Stainless steel products are recyclable and can be reused. Known as an environmentally friendly material because of its recyclability, stainless steel is also chosen by many users primarily for its low cost.

Stainless steel is supplied as flat products, plate, bar, wire, and pipe, in forms suited to each customer's application.

There are a few points to keep in mind when choosing stainless steel. As long as these points are observed, stainless steel will deliver a high level of efficiency. They can be summarized as follows:

  • Before purchasing stainless steel, be sure to choose a grade suited to the area where it will be used. Otherwise, problems may arise during installation, and the material may also struggle with the external conditions it is exposed to in service.

  • The temperature, durability, and appearance requirements of the working environment must be correctly determined for the stainless steel being purchased. The specifications of any custom-produced stainless steel must likewise be correctly defined.

  • Choosing stainless steel on price alone may leave some of a company's requirements unmet, creating problems in terms of both product selection and cost. Cheap, low-quality stainless steel not only has a short service life but also brings problems such as rust and corrosion.

As long as the points above are observed, stainless steel will deliver a high level of performance. Stainless steel is an outstanding material chosen by many companies to reduce their costs.
