Stainless Steel Grades 316Ti and 316L

Stainless steel, one of the most widely chosen materials among companies today, is an iron alloy capable of forming its own protective surface layer. Its ease of use and long service life place it at the top of many companies' lists. Its resistance to wear caused by corrosion makes the material even more attractive. Beyond its long life and corrosion resistance, another reason it is preferred is its clean, visually appealing finish. Stainless steel can be produced in different grades and with different properties depending on the application. Because it retains its structure even at high temperatures, it delivers reliable performance for its users. As a brief background, stainless steel was invented in the early 1900s, before the First World War, by European steelmakers. It has passed through many stages of development since then and is now used in a wide range of fields.

316Ti Stainless Steel

Grade 316Ti stainless steel is derived from grade 304 by adding nickel and a higher proportion of molybdenum. These additions increase the steel's corrosion resistance, allowing it to retain its properties even under the challenging conditions found in its service environments. Grade 316 stainless steels also have a higher tensile strength than grade 304. 316Ti is grade 316 stainless steel with titanium added. Unlike some other grades, this material has very good weldability. It is less suited to forging, however, since the titanium and other elements it contains can crack during the forging process.

316L Stainless Steel

316L stainless steel is produced by adding more molybdenum and nickel to grade 304 stainless steel. Thanks to its chemical composition, this grade offers excellent corrosion resistance even under harsh conditions. In addition, grade 316 has a higher tensile strength than 304. It has good formability and weldability, and its range of applications is very broad. It is used extensively in the paint industry, in steam boilers, and in the chemical industry.
